December 1st 2007. Icon to Condo.

Icon to Condo takes Malevich's Black Cross as its starting point. The Black Cross was painted in 1915, obtained by movement of the Black Square vertically and horizontally simultaneously. The generative process that takes place during Icon To Condo examines how a Suprematist Icon such as the Black Square, a quasi religious symbol of non-objectivity in art is reborn in the many stylictally hybrid condominiums popping up in many urban centers today. This reminds us that art movements such as Suprematism, Constructivism, de Stijl, the Bauhaus, the pinnacles of modernism in art, are still very much present in contemporary building and life.
